Overview

Nestled in the heart of Stellenbosch, a young couple sought to transform a spare bedroom into a refined work-from-home sanctuary—one that would support their growing business while honoring the home’s architectural heritage. Pemba’s goal was to create a space that felt both elevated and functional, blending modern comfort with historic charm.

The first step was restoring the room’s connection to its idyllic surroundings. Over the years, the original sash windows had been replaced, diminishing both natural light and views. Pemba meticulously reinstated these classic windows, flooding the space with dappled sunlight and framing the ever-changing beauty of the landscape. Cold, sterile tiles were replaced with warm hardwood flooring, adding richness and tactility that transformed the room’s character.

To further elevate the space, Pemba introduced refined moldings along the ceiling cornices and feature walls. Inspired by the home’s architectural lineage, these subtle embellishments add depth and craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Beyond architecture, Pemba led the interior design process, guiding the couple through procurement, material selection, and bespoke furniture choices. Thoughtfully curated pieces—ergonomic yet sophisticated seating, custom shelving, and ambient lighting—create a workspace that is both inviting and highly functional. A palette of soft neutrals, warm woods, and tactile finishes fosters an atmosphere of quiet luxury, encouraging deep focus and creativity.

More than just a home office, this space is a sanctuary—where work and inspiration intertwine seamlessly.
